It’s Raining Snakes!

We got quite a bit of demo done this weekend AND yard work (finally)! The house lost several walls and a lot of ceiling. We’ve ran into now 3 Cockroach nests during our adventure, but this weekend while tearing out ceiling a SNAKE fell from the sky. Brady pulled a big chunk of dry wall down and with it came insulation and a snake! I was looking at the cloud of cotton candy pink fluff when I noticed something black draped around the front of his ladder. It was a 5ft long rat snake! Thankfully not a super scary snake but he was a big boy and did not like Brady trying to pick him up. After a few failed attempts he was relocated to the woods behind the house.

We got a new to us riding lawn mower, one of the new dangled zero turn kinda. Brady looked like pro on it, I moved like grandma on her way to church with sweet tea unmoved in the back. It did make quick work of our jungle of a backyard. It took two goes at it to get it looking manageable. It was the thickest jungle grass I’ve ever seen. Brady attempted to weed eat, but the grass ate through the weed eater string like kids in chocolate cake. He got a total of 20 feet done before we looked at the weed eater head and the string was just completely gone. Just the yard work took half of Sunday to accomplish, but it sure looks better.

We took out the rest of the ceiling in the dining/kitchen area and discovered more craziness. Two of the the three walls are just floating, nothing supporting them from above, only support is from the rotten floor. The other poor wall is hanging on for dear life, it is supporting the weight of the roof rafters where a wall was taken out in the past and a beam was not put in its place.

Ceilings weren’t the only things coming out this weekend. No more paneling! The dining room (soon to be kitchen) walls were removed and all the paneling walls in the hallway were removed.

Next weekend we take down the walls between the kitchen & dining. Hopefully, take a peek at what lies below.. . . .scary stuff. We also hope to get the rest of the living room ceiling down. Thanks to friends we now have scaffolding, which should make that job a breeze.

We are getting closer and closer to putting stuff back in and making it beautiful!
