What is renovation rain you ask. . . it is rotten wood, wood so rotten when you grab it all you have in your hand is saw dust and it rains down on the ground below. We found more rot this weekend, so bad it was renovation rain.

Saturday we braced the decking seams in the living room and it is now as sound as possible and ready for the new roof. We can walk on it now without it bouncing like a trampoline.
Only three things stand between us and a new roof: fixing the rotted facia board, laying down the purlins for the metal, and having the new gray metal roofing dropped on site.

After a late night trip to Home Depot we have an entire pallet of purlins ready to install. That is 360 purlins for anyone who is curious. We won’t use all of them, but we will use the vast majority of them.

Its a happy day when we move this into our renovation site. This means we are really ready to put stuff back together. This is the saw that will eventually cut our facia, crown molding, flooring, base boards, trim, and all of the beautiful cypress that will go into this house. This is one of our main workhorses for renovating. It may not look impressive sitting on the back of the trailer but this saw represents all the pretty things I can’t wait to see in this house!
While Brady was having his fun on the roof and tearing out rot I set out on my own adventure. . . . The master bathroom. IT WAS NASTY! I demoed the trim, backsplash, ceramic tile on the vanity, and a layer of nasty linoleum. The smells were the worst part, by far. Every ceramic floor tile that came out threw up the strong scent of flowery bathroom cleaner and the layer of linoleum around the toilet reeked of ammonia when it broke free.

FYI: I am not a bathroom person, the only time I get up close and personal with a toilet (even my own) is when I am cleaning it or sick. So sitting in front of this surrounded by the sights and smells of someone else’s bathroom was not my cut of tea. Renovating is not for the faint of heart or stomach.

As you can tell from the pictures this room is a total gut. Everything will come out including the subfloor and will be replaced. This isn’t the largest master bath, but it will be a showstopper when we are finished. While I was sitting in front of the nasty toilet, smelling all the nasty smells, I just kept thinking about the beautiful tiled shower that will be where the nasty toilet is now.
