The End of an Era

The house will never look the same again. . . Thankfully! She’s still ugly, just in a new way; she’s ugly in a way that people driving by can actually see progress is happening. The bushes are almost gone, the shutters are down (even though the pictures say differently), and the house has a whole new look.

Day one Versus Yesterday

It was quite a whirlwind weekend. Saturday we woke up to a water leak in our guest bath so Brady spent time under our bathroom sink staring at water. Then we scraped more paint and power washed 238, which meant he got to spend even more time staring at water. He’s a saint for all he puts up with from the houses, me, and our three cats. Sunday we taped drip edge and primed the body of the house. It looks like a big, ugly, white elephant, but I’m ecstatic to think in a few weeks it will be painted and have new windows/exterior doors installed and HVAC.

As with EVERY aspect of home renovation Brady can do anything neatly and cleanly. I on the other hand can’t do anything neatly or cleanly, especially painting and pressure washing.

No pictures post priming, Brady just had a light fine mist of paint on him from the sprayer. I on the other hand was COVERED, I found primer on my calf, one thigh, and I’m sure I still have some somewhere on me as I type this 4 days later AND I was just in charge of holding the sprayer hose and the ladder.

There are no shutters on this window. This is a textbook photo of why you should NOT paint shutters while they are still on the house. Finding this under the vinyl shutter really cracked me up. The font shutters weren’t much better. . . . .

There are no shutters in the picture either. When the previous folks painted the house they just painted around the shutters. If you look VERY closely you can tell where they spray painted the shutters on the house too. That’s why there are black lines around the brick colored boxes where they shutters used to be. You truly never know what you will see when you sign on to renovate a house!
